Non-Traditional Green Bean Casserole

I have always enjoyed a good Green Bean Casserole. This recipe caught my eye because it was different - it didn't call for the standard cream of mushroom soup. I just had to try it!

No Cream of Soup Green Bean Casserole from www.realmomkitchen.com

• 2 T. butter
• 2 T. flour
• 1 t. salt
• 1 t. sugar
• 1 c. sour cream (I used light)
• 3 (14.5 oz.) cans green beans, drained
• 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
• 1 (2.8 oz) can French’s french fried onion rings

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Melt 2 T. butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth, and cook for one minute. Remove from heat and stir in the salt, sugar, and sour cream. Add green beans, and stir to coat.

Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Spread shredded cheese over the top. Sprinkle french fried onions over the cheese.

Bake covered for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove cover and continue cooking for 15 more minutes or until the top is golden and cheese is bubbly.
